Acceptable Use Policy

What you can and can't send us, so recordings are handled lawfully and the people in them are protected.

Updated October 2026

You need the right to share it

Only send recordings and documents you are entitled to share. You confirm this every time you upload.

Lawfully recorded

Recordings must have been made lawfully where they were made. Some places require every participant's consent to be recorded; others require only one. If you're not sure, check before you send.

Sensitive information

Recordings often contain health, legal, financial or other sensitive information. You must have a lawful basis to share it with us, such as participants' informed consent for research interviews.

US patient information

We do not currently sign HIPAA Business Associate Agreements, so do not send recordings containing US patients' protected health information. De-identified recordings are welcome. For any other recording that identifies patients, email us before you upload.

Children

Recordings that include children should only be sent with the consent of a parent or guardian, or another lawful basis.

Not allowed

Recordings made to monitor or track someone without a lawful basis; material that infringes someone else's rights; content involving the sexual exploitation of anyone, especially children; content shared to harass, threaten or defame; and anything submitted for an unlawful purpose.

What we do about it

We may decline, pause or cancel an order that breaks this policy and refund it where appropriate. Where the law requires it, we report illegal content to the authorities. To report misuse, email support@soundtoscript.com.
