How do I check the length of an audio file?
Drop the file into the box above. The browser reads its metadata and shows the duration in minutes and seconds, along with the price for that length at each of our rates. Nothing leaves your device until you press upload.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. The file is read locally by the browser and discarded when you close the page. Uploading only happens if you press the upload button, and then it goes through the same encrypted upload the order form uses.
What if the browser cannot read my file?
A few formats — AMR, WMA and some MKV files — cannot be decoded by browsers. In that case the page tells you so; upload the file and the confirmed length and price appear as soon as the upload finishes.
Does it work for video files?
Yes. MP4, MOV, M4V and WebM are read the same way; the price is based on the audio length, not the picture.
What counts as billable audio?
The total length of your recordings, rounded up to the next whole minute. Silence and music inside a recording count as audio time, because they are part of the file an editor has to work through.
Can I check several files at once?
The checker reads one file at a time. For a multi-file order, check each one and add the durations together — or upload them all at once and the order form totals them for you.
