From $0.80 per audio minute · accurate to the audio · checked by people
Human transcription, priced for your audio before you pay.
Every recording is graded for audio difficulty as soon as it's uploaded, so your quote shows its exact price and the reason before you pay. Clear audio pays the standard rate, and nothing is added later.
Then a first-pass draft, a professional editor and a separate quality check turn meetings, interviews, hearings and lectures into transcripts you can quote, file and decide on. Pay on the page by card or M-Pesa.

Difficult audio is graded and quoted higher (grade C +30%, grade D +70%, on the affected recordings), always before you pay. Minimum order $3.00. Rush delivery within 24 hours adds 50% (rush orders over 60 minutes are confirmed by our team). Timestamps every 5 minutes, every 2 minutes, at each speaker change or every 30 seconds are included at no extra cost for now. Quotes are valid for 7 days.
Medical recordings: We do not currently sign HIPAA Business Associate Agreements, so please don't upload recordings containing US patients' protected health information. De-identified recordings are welcome. For any other recording that identifies patients, email us before you upload so we can confirm we can take it on.
How your price is set
You pay for the work your recording actually needs, and you see why before you pay.
Measured
Each recording is measured to the second. You pay per audio minute, rounded up once per order, never per file.
Graded A to D
Every recording is graded on how hard it is to transcribe: how clearly the words come through, background noise, recording level, distortion and overlapping speakers.
Shown before you pay
Your quote lists each recording's grade and the reason. Think a grade is wrong? Email us before paying and a person checks it.
Accurate to the audio
What's written is what was said. If a transcript falls short, we re-edit it free, and every grade gets free corrections for 14 days. How the guarantee works
- Grade A · ClearClose microphone, little noise, one voice at a time.Standard rate
- Grade B · FairSome noise or distance, still easy to follow.Standard rate
- Grade C · DifficultNoisy room, distant speakers or frequent crosstalk.+30%
- Grade D · Very difficultHeavy noise, distortion or long unclear stretches.+70%
Three passes on every line
This is the same line from the deposition above, as it moves through an order.
First-pass draft
THE WITNESS: for years about maybe for and a half
Automatic speech recognition gets the shape. Names, numbers and homophones are where it slips.
Professional editor
THE WITNESS: Four years, about. Maybe four and a half.
An editor listens to the audio, fixes the words, punctuation and speaker labels, and applies your formatting.
Separate quality check
THE WITNESS: Four years, about. Maybe four and a half.
A second person spot-checks against the recording before it is signed off as a branded PDF, DOCX or TXT.

Questions people ask
Standard orders are delivered in 2–3 business days from payment. Rush delivery within 24 hours adds 50%; rush orders over 60 minutes are confirmed by our team first. Your quote shows the delivery time before you pay.
You see an estimate as soon as you add your recordings. Once they are uploaded we measure them exactly and check their audio quality, which usually takes a minute or two, and your confirmed USD quote appears right on the upload page with a pay button: you pay there without leaving the page. If the check takes longer than about 2 minutes, or your recordings are long, the page explains what we're checking and offers to email your quote instead; it arrives within about 10 minutes. If you've already left, the same quote arrives by email with a secure link to pay online. If a recording needs a person (another language, mostly unusable audio, or a rush order over 60 minutes), our team sends the quote within 30 to 60 minutes during business hours, 08:00–21:00 UTC; files sent outside those hours are reviewed first thing the next morning. Quotes hold for 7 days.
Every recording is graded automatically from A to D on how hard it is to transcribe, from how clearly the words can be recognised, background noise, recording level, distortion and overlapping speakers. Grades A (clear) and B (fair) cost the standard rate. Grade C (difficult) costs 30% more and grade D (very difficult) 70% more, and only on the recordings that carry that grade. Your quote and payment page show each recording's grade and the reason before you pay, and nothing is added after payment without your agreement. Recordings that are mostly unusable are checked by a person, who sends a custom quote or tells you we can't take them on. If you think a grade is wrong, email us before paying and a person will check it.
Online, on the upload page or from the link in your quote email: by Visa or Mastercard card or M-Pesa, through Paystack. Prices are in US dollars; Kenyan shilling payments (including M-Pesa) are charged at the day's exchange rate, and the checkout shows the exact amount before you pay. Your receipt always shows the USD amount. Work starts as soon as your payment is confirmed.
Yes. You pay on Paystack's own secure checkout, and we never see or store your card details or PINs. Your receipt is emailed automatically as soon as the payment is confirmed.
Nothing, and please don't pay again. Some payments, such as mobile money or cards your bank checks further, take a few minutes to confirm. The page updates on its own and your receipt arrives by email once it's confirmed. If you haven't heard from us within an hour, email us with your order reference.
No. Declined and cancelled payments aren't charged, and your quote stays open so you can try again, with the same method or another one. If money did leave your account, don't pay again: email support@soundtoscript.com with your reference and we'll check it with the provider.
We take one payment per order, and the payment page holds a second payment while the first is still processing. If a duplicate ever does go through, we refund it in full to the same method and email you to confirm.
By audio minute, in USD. Rates start from general $0.80, business $0.90, academic $0.95, medical $1.25, legal $1.40 and captions $1.50, with a $3.00 minimum. Rush delivery within 24 hours adds 50%. Timestamps are included at no extra cost for now. Difficult audio (grade C) adds 30% and very difficult audio (grade D) adds 70%, on the affected recordings only; your quote always shows each recording's grade and the final price before you pay.
Up to 1 GB of audio or video per order, plus up to 100 MB of supporting documents such as briefs, terms and speaker notes. Add them all in the same upload box. For larger jobs, email us a share link.
Audio and video files are scheduled for deletion after 90 days, so there is time to sort out anything about your order. Ask and we will delete them sooner.
Yes: our transcripts are accurate to the audio, meaning what is written is what was said. On recordings graded A or B we hold ourselves to 99% on every passage that can be heard clearly. If a transcript falls short, send us three or more examples with timestamps within 14 days of delivery. A reviewer who didn't work on your order checks it against the recording, and if it falls short we re-edit it free within 48 hours. If the re-edit still isn't right, we look at a refund case by case. Every grade gets free corrections. The full terms are in our Refund Policy.
No. Our house style is verbatim without fillers: we keep every word as it was spoken, including repetitions and false starts, and leave out hesitation sounds such as um, uh, er and hmm. Responses such as "mm-hmm" and "uh-huh" stay, because they answer a question. If you need something different, say so in the notes when you upload.
Yes. Every transcription order passes three stages: a first-pass draft, a professional editor who corrects names, terms and speaker changes, and a separate QA check before delivery. Premium ASR, our faster option without the editing stages, is coming soon.
We do not currently sign HIPAA Business Associate Agreements, so please don't upload recordings containing US patients' protected health information. De-identified recordings are welcome. For any other recording that identifies patients, email us before you upload so we can confirm we can take it on.
